Schuberth M1 Pro Open-Face Helmet

The Schuberth M1 Pro helmet offers great value if you want to combine the experience of riding with an open-faced helmet, with the versatility of a full-face motorcycle helmet.

This is the latest open-faced helmet to arrive from Schuberth, the M1 Pro. This is an improved version of the original Schuberth M1 and comes with a few updates. This is a premium open-faced helmet and is appropriately priced at about 440 Euros, or about 500 USD. For that premium price, this helmet does have a lot of premium features and functions. It will also be competing with the Shoei J-Cruise 2 and the Arai SZ-R VAS.

Shell

For the shell, the Schuberth M-1 Pro is only available in 2 helmet shell sizes and they cover sizes XS to XXL. The helmet has been tested in a wind tunnel for aerodynamics and comes with Schuberth’s Direct Fiber Processed Shell. This is a fiberglass shell extruded under high pressure and is precisely defined to minimize excess material and reduce the overall weight but keep the strength.

In terms of weight, the Schuberth M1Pro is on the heavier side as it weighed in at about 1401 grams in a size M.

Ventilation

Looking at the ventilation now, and it is simple. There is no chin vent, because there is no chin bar but there is have a large top vent on the helmet. The ventilation channels on the inside of the helmet allow the air to flow into the liner and out the back of the helmet down by your neck. There is no exhaust on the shell, but this will help improve this helmet’s noise isolation.

Visor

The visor of the Schuberth M-I Pro is large enough to cover your whole face. You can see evidence of the aerodynamic testing with points on top of the visor and shaping at the bottom. The visor is pinlock anti fog lens prepared but that has not been included in the box.

There is also a drop down sun visor controlled with a slider and though the sun visor doesn’t drop down too low, though it does cover your eyes. Removing the visor is easy, you just push on levers in the mechanism and twist the visor off. If you want to ride with the visor off you can attach a visor peak, which comes in the box. It will protect your visor mechanism and the gasket, plus it makes the helmet look nicer without the visor.

Interior

The liner for the Schuberth M-One Pro is removable, washable and antibacterial. It has a good, strong feel to it, and it does take a little fiddling to get out, just like all the other Schuberth helmets. On the inside, you can see several channels and the holes in the back help to direct the warm air into the liner and that exits out a hole at the bottom of the helmet.

The speakers and microphone for the Sena SC1-M have also already been pre-installed. This helmet is prepared for the Sena SC1M and the SRC M1 Bluetooth communication systems and you can just plug the system into a removable tray at the back of the helmet. It has the plug and play system which makes installation almost nothing.

The M1 Pro also comes with a micro ratchet enclosure system.

Schuberth M1 Pro vs Schuberth M1

Since the M1 Pro is an improved version of the M1, there are some points where they differ. The M1 has a multi vent system and is larger, while the M1 Pro is a bit simpler and more refined. At the back, it is the same story, as the M1 has large vents in the logo but the M1 Pro simply doesn’t have anything there. So, despite these changes, the M1 Pro does still feel similar in terms of ventilation.

The inner liner has been changed out as well so that it feels smoother on your head and it just gives it a little boost in comfort.

Summary

The M1 Pro offers the same as Schuberth usually does in its helmet range: quality and refinement. Though this is a jet helmet and doesn’t come at the same high level as the Schuberth C4 Pro, this popular helmet does well out on the road. It also comes in plenty of colors ranging from matte black to many more.
