The Klim Badlands Pro A3 has an impressive legacy in the world of adventure gear clothing. With this second generation, Klim managed to raise the bar even higher. This series was the first textile jacket to receive the triple A certification, which is the highest possible safety score in Europe. Many jackets in this category received a single or double A, but none managed to earn the triple A score. This impressive score is largely due to its reliable abrasion resistance, even at high speeds.
Material Jacket
Like its predecessor, the jacket is made of a 3-layer gore-tex pro shell construction. This makes the jacket incredibly strong and waterproof. The Superfabric in the shoulders, forearms and elbows has been redeveloped with more attention to comfort. The usage of Vectran fabric is what makes this set so unique. This is a fiber that’s made from liquid crystal polymer and also the reason the set gets a triple A certification. At times, Vectran even managed to outperform Aramid and Kevlar in the safety tests. The reflective strips of this second generation have been updated to improve visibility.
Protection Jacket
In terms of protection, the A3 features the same protectors as the original badlands pro. For example, the jacket is fitted with level-2 D3O protectors in the shoulders and elbows. D3O protectors are very flexible that keep a balance between protection and comfort.
Comfort
The Badlands Pro A3 jacket features a lot of storage space. For example, the front of the jacket has multiple pockets. Two on the chest, two in the middle and two on the sides. The “utility pocket” is back underneath the Klim logo. The jacket also has a large pocket on the back, which is more accessible in this new version. The top of the jacket is equipped with a handy little panel on which you can attach certain items with Velcro.
The inside of the jacket has a cutout for a hydration system, which you can find above the back protector. If you open the zipper, you can store your camel bag in there. You then pull the hose through the lining until it comes out of the pouch under the new Velcro panel.
Riding in warm weather is no problem with the amount of ventilation zippers. The zippers are strategically placed on both the upper and lower arms, on the sides and on the backside of the jacket. The zippers themselves have a YKK finish and are easier to grip with a glove in this version.
All these features do not influence the comfort. If necessary, several adjustment points allow you to change the fit to your liking. These adjustment points are located on the forearms and at the bottom of the jacket. The collar of the jacket is updated with a spring-less cordlock system and, like the lower part of the jacket, adjustable to your preference.
Badlands Pro A3 Pants
As with the Badlands Pro A3 jacket, the pants have the same triple AAA certification. The pants are also made of Vectran, 3-layer Gore-Tex Pro with leather and the same Superfabric. Used in the areas with the highest wear probability. This, just like the jacket, is the main reason that the pants are also triple-AAA certified.
Protection Pants
The protection of the pants is similar to that of the jacket. The hips and knee areas are fitted with Klim’s Level 2 D3O protectors. Additionally, the tailbone area also has its own protector. This protector is similar to the others but is not CE certified.
Comfort Pants
The pants feature vents on the thighs and along the back. Next to these vents we are the pockets. Like the jacket, the pants are adjustable. To adjust the pants to your body, you can use the Velcro straps located at the waist and knees. Finally, the pants feature a water-repellent and anti-odor polygenic lining.
